Infection Control
At SD Oral, Facial, and Implant Surgery we take infection control and cleanliness very seriously. Our surgeons and office staff meticulously follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). These procedures include, but are not limited to:
We utilize the practice of universal precautions to protect patients and staff alike. This practice involves standardized personal protective equipment for all staff members in the surgical area including gloves, facemasks (N95 mask + surgical mask), face shields, surgical gowns, and hair-coverings. All equipment used during surgical procedures are sanitized and covered with disposable barriers. All surfaces are sanitized with chemical disinfectants.
All reusable equipment, including handpieces and surgical instruments, are cleaned and sterilized in a designated processing area to ensure safety and quality control. Instruments are first cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaning system, which uses high frequency ultrasound waves delivered through a cleaning solution to remove surface contaminants. Cleaning is followed by sterilization with an autoclave, which uses high pressure, high temperature, and steam to kill bacteria and viruses.
At SD Oral, Facial, and Implant Surgery we are committed to making you feel as safe and comfortable as possible during your surgical procedure. The cornerstone of safe and comfortable practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with our surgeons if you have any questions or concerns.
